lingerie review: dragonfly plunge bra and brazilian – curvy kate

[AD / pr sample] the curvy kate dragonfly set was gifted to me by brastop with no instruction to review or post about it. all opinions and comments are my own and entirely uninfluenced. | photos shot by ylenia margareci.

before i begin this blog post, i just want to take a moment to praise the non-padded plunges that curvy kate are bringing out lately. i’ve announced my love for their lifestyle bra (reviewed here) and their check me out bra, and dragonfly is another gal in the gang.

due to my bust shape (pointy and east-west, and rather wide set while being round and full), non-padded plunges often don’t work on me. instead of pushing my boobs up and in, they tend to pull my breasts apart and flatten them to the sides – not the look i’m really going for so i often stick to moulded or padded options! but these latest offerings from what is easily one of my favourite lingerie brands are becoming some of my favourite styles to wear in regular rotation.

Curvy Kate Dragonfly Plunge Bra Wine Fuller Bust Lingerie Review 30FF Valentine's Sexy

valentine’s day is just 48 hours away at the time i’m writing this and whether you want to buy a last minute set of lingerie to surprise your partner, or just wanna show yourself some lovin’, read on to see why i think dragonfly should be one of your top choices – valentine’s or not.

starting with the aesthetics, this gorgeous plunge bra is made from a soft, sheer black mesh and features strategically placed wine toned lace over the cups. the neckline and band are edged with coordinating elastic banding, and the shoulder straps split into two dainty, fully adjustable straps for a flirty little extra touch. the band is nice and deep, fastening with four rows of hooks and eyes at the back in 30FF (i believe it has 3 hooks for cups below FF).

as is often the case lately, i’ve had to sister size into a 30FF as this style sadly does not come in 28 bands. compared to my usual size of 28G it is a little loose in the band but does run what i’d consider to be true to size. when fastened on the tightest hooks it is snug and comfortable, and doesn’t slide around my back.

the cups are ever so slightly too wide in the wire for me, but comfortable and unnoticeable. i definitely prefer wires to be wider and clear of breast tissue rather than digging into it! they’re a simple three part design and i do experience some slight wrinkling in the top cup on my smaller breast (totally normal for me in many styles), but i wouldn’t want to go down a cup size as this would likely result in quad-boobing.

the dainty straps are gorgeous and i love that they’re both individually adjustable, but i do find that after a while of wearing it they can dig in a little – though not uncomfortably so. more just that i become rather aware that they are there, while with normal bra straps i don’t tend to notice them that much. i also think they’d look quite cute under a cami or spaghetti strap vest in a coordinating colour!

i adore the depth of the band. it offers that almost longline style without the flipping and the rolling that can come with a super long band, and offers increased support and it honestly feels like a bit of a hug. the elastic edging i find does reduce the stretch of the wing mesh ever so slightly, so bear this in mind if you happen to be between sizes – you might want to size up in the band if you prefer a looser fit.

the knicker is a brazilian brief which i’m totally happy with – i’m not one for big knickers usually so thongs or brazilians tend to be my go-to. these fit my size 8-10 frame perfectly in a 10, i could drop down to an 8 but i think they would dig in just a bit too much along the rear leg edge so wouldn’t offer as smooth of a fit under clothes. again they are made from a sheer black mesh with strategic lace placement in the front, and the waistband features the same wine coloured elastic banding. i think it adds a bit of a modern, sporty vibe to this otherwise super romantic set which works really well.

this is one of those sets that i’ll not only wear for everyday rotation, but would be happy to bust out for a special occasion too. the fabrics are comfortable, the fit is great, the aesthetic is gorgeous and the price point is fair and affordable.

you can get your paws on this gorgeous set here at brastop, and there’s also a babydoll option!
