february – the month of love… and new lingerie collections. whether you want something to spice things up in the bedroom or you just want to give yourself a treat, there’s always plenty of choice at this time of year. from cutesy heart prints to edgier bondage-inspired designs, lovehoney* is a bit of a one-stop shop for fun, not-so-practical pieces. as part of their #mindblowingvalentines campaign i thought i’d try out their fun and flirty sweetheart teddy along with the bold and daring captivate body – two very different styles but still so obviously valentines-y. read on to see what i thought…

the look

sweetheart is the cliché valentine’s set of dreams – styled in lightweight white chiffon-type fabric, covered in pink and red heart print. the body features an ultra-low plunge with an adjustable halter strap, a high leg cut with ruffled edging, and a skinny waistband with bow to cinch you in a little. it’s a really simple but effective piece that’s designed to highlight your curves effortlessly.

captivate is a bolder, edgier design with black strapping and stunning rose embroidery in metallic gold thread. this piece has a detachable choker and suspender straps, with all the strapping being fully adjustable to help you find the best fit. the cups are underwired with a flexible wire and use a single dart to shape.

i chose both these styles as i feel like they really contrast each other while still feeling quintessentially valentines.

the fit

i’m honestly finding myself to be very impressed by the fit of lovehoney’s lingerie* pieces. taking into consideration that their main use is for the bedroom, i can overlook the fact they’re not a technically perfect fit. as much as i like to harp on about finding the perfect fitting bra, sometimes its liberating to throw caution to the wind and wear something that might not be the best fit, but makes you feel FABULOUS (at least for shorter periods of time, because ill-fitting bras worn regularly can cause some awful pain – speaking from experience!).

the sweetheart body is a simple teddy shape with nothing to offer support, but the type of fabric offers a comfortable and somewhat flexible fit. there’s an elasticated waistband that feels very stretchy, and is also partly adjustable at the back with a slider for even more flexibility. the halter neck tie is also slightly adjustable, so you can adjust the length to get the right height in the ‘cups’ to suit your bust shape. i had both the waist and neck sliders tightened the whole way and had a comfortable fit. i did find that the gusset pulled up a little but, again, as this is more of a bedroom piece i wasn’t overly bothered by it – it isn’t like it would be staying on for a particularly long time let’s be honest!

when it comes to captivate, you can really appreciate the flexibility of lovehoney’s ‘one size’ adjustable sizing. yes, the cups are wired so they won’t fit every bust shape, but the softness of the wire offers some leeway and, similarly to the sweetheart teddy, it isn’t something that’s really designed to be worn for an extended period of time. the strapping details join with hooks and are all adjustable with sliders to help you get the perfect fit. i was able to tighten it all the way around my waist, while keeping it a little looser around my hips to accommodate my shape.

both pieces would easily fit the advertised size 8-16, and there are also plus size options for both styles which covers sizes 18-24.

the verdict

for fun, playful lingerie that’s designed for the bedroom, lovehoney* is definitely a top contender. both of the styles i tried out here would be perfect for valentine’s, but also for a romantic weekend away (once we can travel again, thanks ‘rona) or cheeky anniversary date night.

it looks like lovehoney also reuse the same shapes frequently with their sets, with changes to colour palettes or laces to give them fresh updates season after season – because of this you’re guaranteed the same quality and fit each time, and once you find a shape that works for you, you know you can go for it again!

the sweetheart teddy is priced at £24.99 which feels reasonable for the design and quality. captivate is a little pricier at £54.99 but considering the aesthetics and fact that that this is a one-piece item, it also feels reasonably priced.
